The KA-BAR TDI Investigator 1493 offers an even more discreet “last option” for plainclothes officers or deep concealed carry. John Benner of the Tactical Defense Institute modified the original TDI design by shortening the handle. Consequently, this model virtually disappears under a light shirt or jacket while still providing a full-sized blade for defense.
Specifically, the KA-BAR TDI Investigator features the standard 2.7-inch AUS 8A stainless steel blade but uses a compact grip that is harder to detect visually. The textured Zytel handle still ensures a secure hold during deployment. It includes a reversible hard plastic sheath that can be mounted for inside or outside waistband carry.
