The KA-BAR 1310 Slabby
What is the KA-BAR 1310 Slabby designed for?
The KA-BAR 1310 Slabby is the ultimate heavy-duty evolution of the world’s most famous fixed blade. Affectionately known as a “hand tank,” this knife was engineered specifically to answer the decades-long demand for an overbuilt, full-tang version of the classic American combat knife. Featuring a 6.86-inch clip point blade, this specialized tactical fixed blade bridges the gap between a fighting knife and a heavy survival tool. By replacing the traditional stick-tang and stacked leather with a massive, continuous slab of steel and rugged Black GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) scales, the Slabby can withstand extreme prying, aggressive batoning, and heavy chopping tasks that would otherwise break a standard combat knife.
How does the KA-BAR 1310 perform in the field?
Built to survive severe abuse without failing, the 1310 is precision drop-forged from a massive 0.1875-inch (3/16″) thick slab of proven 1095 Cro-Van high carbon steel. The blade utilizes a versatile flat grind and a 20-degree edge angle to maintain a razor-sharp slicing geometry despite its extreme structural thickness and 1.1-pound weight. A baked-on black powder coating provides a primary layer of defense against corrosion in damp environments, while the 56-58 HRC rating allows the clean straight edge to be easily restored in the bush using standard edge maintenance tools.
How do you maintain and carry the KA-BAR 1310?
This full-tang system is designed for maximum environmental resistance and rugged deployment. While the GFN scales are completely immune to the elements, the exposed 1095 Cro-Van cutting edge still requires routine oiling to prevent rust in wet conditions. To safely secure this heavy blade, the Slabby comes paired with an American-made custom-molded Black Celcon® hard plastic sheath. This advanced scabbard features a dual-locking retention mechanism to ensure the 1.1-pound knife stays completely secure during high-impact movement until you actively deploy it.
